Filing an Extension

Filing an Extension – The extension does not extend the time to make your tax payment; it only extends the amount of time to send in your paperwork. If you haven't paid at least 90% of the final amount due on your return by April 15th (or the legal due date), there will be fees and penalties for you to deal with. Extension (In basics terms, if you didn’t send any money in with the extension, you really didn’t do anything)
